Why Kegels?

I wrote a post the other day on the importance of Kegel exercises and the messages and the questions that I have been receiving have been so great!

Kegels are crucial for overall health and sexual health in both men and women.

When I recommend Kegels to my clients to strengthen their pelvic floor, most couples are shocked that these aren’t JUST for the ladies.

NOPE!

When you strengthen your pubococcygeus (PC) muscles, your sex life will thank you. The stronger your pelvic floor muscles are, the more intense your orgasms will be.

A lot of women know that Kegels help with urinary incontinence but they also help with fecal incontinence; they support the uterus, the bladder, the small intestine, and the rectum.

Kegels for men strengthen the pelvic floor, support the bladder (urinary incontinence), the bowel (fecal incontinence), and they affect sexual function. They actually improve the blood flow and circulation, which means more control, better, stronger and longer erections!

Where are my pelvic floor muscles, you ask?

Well, they are a group of muscles that run between your pubic bone (in the front) and the tail bone (in the back). The best way I have heard the pelvic floor muscles described is that they are like a hammock or a sling.

Just how does one do a Kegel properly?

You are actually lifting and then holding your pelvic floor muscles and then relaxing them.

It should feel like you are holding the flow of urine. Your thighs, abs, and glutes are NOT involved in this exercise, contrary to popular belief. These guys can take the bench on this one. We are just concentrating on the pelvic floor here. It can take a few tries to really get it right but when you do, the difference is significant.

* Hold the squeeze for 3-5 seconds

* Release for 3-5 seconds

* Repeat this 10x

* try and do your Kegels 2-3x/day

***It helps to NOT hold your breath and just to focus on the exact spot you are trying to tighten.***

If you are having difficulties, try lying on your back with your knees bent and relax your abs and glutes. You can even put your hand bellow your belly button to make sure those muscles remain relaxed.

The more you do your Kegels, the faster you will notice results. If you do your Kegels regularly, you could notice a difference in a s little as a couple of weeks.❤️
